Start with the type of weapon. The revolver remains the centerpiece of the Wild West: the 1873 Colt Peacemaker, the 1851 Navy or the 1860 Army, the Smith & Wesson Schofield, or the LeMat 1855 revolver and its double barrel. To compare barrel lengths and finishes, browse Colt Western replicas. The under-guard lever-action rifle is a hallmark of the cowboy's look: the Winchester 1873 and 1892, and the Henry 1860, all of which are included among Winchester replicas.
Rifles and small-caliber firearms round out the collection. The Trappers' Kentucky Rifle It measures 148.5 cm; in contrast, the short-barreled Coach Gun is no longer than 48.5 cm. The 1837 Pepperbox and the 1849 Colt Pocket, measuring 22 to 23 cm, fit on a shelf, just like the Derringer. Finally, choose the brand: most Denix reproductions combine zamac and solid wood, and can be cocked and fired; Kolser replicas, made of zamac, brass, or steel, are often shipped in a decorative box.
The Derringer owes its name to Henry Deringer, a gunsmith from Philadelphia, who spelled it with a single “r.” His short-barreled pocket pistols were so widely copied—right down to his hallmarks—that the name became generic, and the misspelling with two “r”s stuck. The Remington Model 95, with two over-and-under barrels that swing upward, was produced in quantities exceeding 150,000 from 1866 to 1935.
Kolser's Remington 1858 Percussion Rifle It stands out for its closed frame, its 8-inch octagonal barrel, and its real wood stock plates, available in black or distressed finishes. The Kolser Derringer Pistol, a double-barreled model, is available in aged metal, nickel-plated, or patinated finishes, with a stock in imitation ivory, mother-of-pearl, or wood, and comes with two decorative bullets. More rare, the 1854 Volcanic pistol It is cocked using a trigger guard lever, like a rifle, and features a metal and brass breechblock. For the firearms seen on screen, check out replica weapons from Western movies.
Smith & Wesson and Winchester share a common ancestor. In 1854, Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson partnered with Courtlandt Palmer to produce an under-guard lever-action firearm, available in both pistol and carbine versions. In 1855, the company adopted the name Volcanic Repeating Arms Company and welcomed new investors, including Oliver Winchester. By late 1856, Winchester had taken control of the company; based in New Haven, it became the New Haven Arms Company in 1857. Daniel Wesson then joined Horace Smith to found their own revolver factory.
A rifle that is more than one meter long requires a wall mount that supports it along its entire length. The wall mount shaped like soccer balls, made of metal, is secured with two included screws and holds revolvers, rifles, and Winchester firearms. Keep your replicas away from moisture and direct sunlight, dust them off with a soft, dry cloth, and maintain the metal, wood, and leather with Ballistol all-purpose oil. For your collection, choose from Western holsters and belts Made of genuine, hand-stitched leather, with a cartridge belt, and add a sheriff's star or a marshal's badge made of distressed metal.
For a cohesive collection, choose a historical period before choosing a brand. Civil War: an 1851 Colt Navy, an 1858 Remington, and an 1860 Henry rifle. Western Expansion: an 1873 Peacemaker, an 1873 Winchester, and a Coach Gun. Then add a holster, and don’t forget the decorative bullets to adorn the cartridge belt.
No. Denix and Kolser replicas are not designed for firing: they do not fire any projectiles and are neither airsoft models nor airguns. Their moving parts—the hammer, trigger, cylinder, and trigger guard lever—are included solely to enhance the realism of the display.
The Pepperbox and the 1849 Colt Pocket measure between 22 and 23 cm. Most revolvers range from 25.5 to 37 cm, and the Buntline Special measures 46 cm. The Coach Gun is 48.5 cm long, a Winchester carbine ranges from 94 to 110 cm, and the Kentucky rifle is 148.5 cm long. Measure your wall before ordering.
Metal replicas are restricted to adults. When transporting your replica, always keep it in its box or in a carrying case; never let it be visible on the street. At trade shows and conventions, metal props are usually prohibited, and sometimes even wooden ones: props are generally allowed only for cosplayers during parades.
