Start with the material, which determines the finish and weight. The Metal Demon Slayer katanas have a two- or three-tone 440 steel blade, often screen-printed with kanji, and a wooden sheath: expect them to be about 1 m long and weigh 800 g to 1 kg. The Demon Slayer wooden katanas, with painted bamboo blades, weigh between 380 and 550 g and are easier to carry for cosplay. The luminous katanas combine an engraved metal blade with an ABS section illuminated by LEDs. Finally, the mini katanas They measure about 45 cm, and most come with a small stand.
Next, choose the character: the blade color, the shape of the hilt, and the sheath decoration vary from one model to another. Each replica features details that make it possible to recognize its owner at a glance.
In Koyoharu Gotōge’s manga, a Nichirin sword takes on its color the first time its owner draws it. Each breath has its own hue: blue for Giyū’s water, red for Rengoku’s flame, and yellow for Zenitsu’s lightning. Tanjirō’s blade turns black—a color so little understood that it’s considered a bad omen.
Visit Tanjirō's katana, with its black blade and round, flower-shaped guard, remains the piece that stands out at first glance. Each Pilier then has its own signature: the four-heart guard and the white lacquered scabbard of Mitsuri, the serrated blade and the snake-patterned guard of’Obanai, Shinobu's "flower guard." For a wider display, the 15-piece set includes two miniature swords, character medals, and the bamboo staff that Nezuko carries.
Demon Slayer is set during the Taishō era (1912–1926), a generation after a turning point for the Japanese sword. On March 28, 1876, the Haitōrei edict prohibited the carrying of swords in public; with only the military, the police, and former feudal lords exempt from this rule. Many swordsmiths then switched to making farm tools and kitchen knives. This is why the demon slayers in the series—who are not recognized by the government—cannot display their katanas in public.
A katana looks its best on a presentation support or a wall mount suitable for the length of its sheath, protected from moisture and direct sunlight. For steel blades, wipe off fingerprints with a soft cloth, then apply a thin layer of oil, such as Ballistol all-purpose oil, from time to time. Our Katana Care Guide explains each step in detail.
For your first Demon Slayer item, we recommend the steel katana of your favorite character—it looks best on display. If you’re preparing for a cosplay event, opt for the wooden version, which is almost half the weight and much easier to carry all day long. In any case, measure the space where you’ll display it before ordering: most models are over one meter in total length.
The steel katana, which is heavier, looks the most like the one in the anime when displayed. The wooden model, with a painted bamboo blade, weighs about 550 g and is easier to carry for cosplay. The light-up katana combines an engraved metal blade with an ABS section illuminated by LEDs.
The full-size katanas in the collection measure approximately 1 m in total length, with a blade length of 65 to 74 cm, depending on the character. The mini-katanas, or tanto, measure approximately 45 cm, with a blade length of 28 cm. The exact dimensions and weight are listed on each product page.
No. The Demon Slayer light-up katanas run on two AAA batteries (not included), which you insert by removing the cap from the handle. A discreet on/off button turns the LEDs on. Remove the batteries if you’re storing the replica for an extended period.
Metal replicas are restricted to adults. When transporting your katana, always keep it in its box or in a sheath; never carry it by hand on the street. At trade shows and conventions, metal replicas are usually prohibited, and sometimes even wooden ones: replicas are generally only allowed for cosplayers during parades.
