The Rambo knives are replicas of the daggers featured in the film series starring Sylvester Stallone: the one from First Blood, the dagger from Rambo II, John Rambo’s machete, and the “Heartstopper” from Last Blood. These are collectible replicas, designed for display, decoration, and fans of the franchise.
Start with the movie: each installment of the series has its own knife, and every replica captures its details. In terms of materials, the dagger from Rambo II, the Heartstopper, and the Stallone-branded dagger from Master Cutlery have a 440 stainless steel blade; the machete, made of high-carbon steel, requires a little more care.
The knife featured in the first two films was crafted by Jimmy Lile, a knife maker from Arkansas nicknamed «The Arkansas Knifesmith.» He designed it based on a Bowie knife, with a hollow, watertight handle for storing matches, needles, thread, and a compass. The two prongs of its guard form a flathead and a Phillips screwdriver, a detail carried over to the replicas in First Blood and Rambo II.
Visit First Blood dagger features a handle wrapped in green cotton thread, a compass, and a brown sheath. The one from Rambo II features the same silhouette in black, with the «John Rambo» signature in Stallone's handwriting. The John Rambo's machete, which appears in Last Blood, is made from a single piece and engraved with Stallone's signature. The Heartstopper by Last Blood It can be recognized by its hook guard and its riveted fiberglass plates.
Three knife makers designed the knives for the series. Following Jimmy Lile for First Blood (1982) and Rambo II (1985), American Gil Hibben designed the knives for Rambo III (1988) and the fourth film, titled John Rambo in France (2008), whose machete reappears in Last Blood. For this latest film (2019), Stallone entrusted the design of the new knives to German knife maker Dietmar Pohl of Pohl Force, and personally nicknamed the larger of the two «Heartstopper.».
Store your knife in its sheath, away from moisture and out of the reach of children. Avoid touching the blade: the acidity on your fingers can cause the steel to tarnish. Wipe off any marks with a soft cloth and a few drops of an oil such as’Ballistol universal oil, which is also suitable for leather sheaths. For your first piece, we recommend the First Blood dagger: it’s the one people immediately associate with the series, with its screwdriver-tipped guard and compass. A Rambo knife is, above all, a collector’s item, meant to be displayed.
The Master Cutlery dagger measures 31 cm in total length; the Heartstopper from Last Blood measures 38 cm with a 23 cm blade; and the daggers from First Blood and Rambo II measure approximately 40 cm. Yes. The Heartstopper, the machete, and the Master Cutlery dagger all come with a leather sheath; the Master Cutlery dagger also comes in a collector's box. The daggers from First Blood and Rambo II come with a brown or black faux-leather sheath and a compass.
Metal replicas are for adults only. Carrying a knife on the street is never recommended: always carry your Rambo knife in its box or in a sheath, out of sight. At trade shows and conventions, metal is usually prohibited; replicas are generally allowed only for cosplayers during parades.
