Gandalf, suddenly showing great authority, banishes Saruman from the Order of Magi, and with a word breaks the magician's staff, stripping him of his power and status.
Humiliated by Saroumane's refusal to release him and his violent beating, Gríma Langue de Serpent stabs the magician. Saruman falls from his tower, is impaled on a wheel and releases the Palantir.
