Production began in March 1943 and was completed in July 1944. The total number of M3s produced in this short space of time was around 2,590,240. Distributed while stocks lasted. French army soldiers benefited from them for many years, as M3s took part in the fighting in Korea, Indochina and Algeria. Initially fitted with an M6 scabbard, quickly abandoned in favor of the M8 scabbard.
