Replica of Saruman's Candlestick from The Lord of the Rings<\/h2>\n

At the start of The Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf refers to Saruman as \u00abthe leader of his order\u00bb and head of the White Council, which drove Sauron out of the Black Forest at the end of Bilbo the Hobbit. Gandalf adds that Saruman has great knowledge of the Rings of Power.<\/p>\n

Saruman, magician sent to Middle-earth by the Valar in human form to fight Sauron. Considered more powerful than Gandalf before he fell. Saruman is jealous of Gandalf. Gained by his lust for power, Saruman ends up allying himself with the Enemy in the secret hope of discovering the ring and keeping it for himself.<\/p>\n

Gandalf tries to convince Saruman to join their camp, to help them fight Sauron. But Saruman's disdain and hatred for Sauron refuse to repent, and he scornfully rejects Gandalf's proposal. Gandalf, suddenly showing great authority, banishes Saruman from the Order of Magi, and with a word breaks the magician's staff, stripping him of his power and status.<\/p>\n

Humiliated by Saruman's refusal to release him and his violent beating, Gr\u00edma Snake Tongue stabs the magician. Saruman falls from his tower, is impaled on a wheel and releases the Palantir.<\/p>\n
