First, before we talk about Category D, a quick reminder about weapons legislation in France. Since 2013, weapons have been classified into 4 categories according to their dangerousness. Category A is totally prohibited, with some exceptions. Category B is subject to authorization. Category C is subject to declaration. Finally, category D can be bought and held freely. The rules for buying, carrying, transporting and possessing firearms vary according to category A, B, C or D.   1. Category A being weapons of war, absolutely prohibited for sale.<\/li>
  2. Category B for people exposed to occupational hazards, as well as for licensed sports shooters under other conditions.<\/li>
  3. Category C covers weapons subject to declaration, such as defensive weapons, neutralized weapons and other sporting weapons.<\/li><\/ol>
